Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana will headline the upcoming annual Infrastructure Indaba hosted by Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA) on the 18th-19th August 2022 at the Indaba Hotel in Fourways. The Minister is scheduled to be the keynote speaker on the first day of the event and will discuss issues including procurement and infrastructure development amongst others. Sharing the news, CESA President Olu Soluade stated. “We are looking forward to having the minister at the event which is an important feature in the CESA calendar. We are optimistic that his presence will give us the opportunity to engage with him to get our rebuild programme back on track, spearheading our country’s economic growth and the creation of many jobs, indeed an opportunity for Engineers to proactively be part of this critical process” says Soluade.

This will be the first in-person Infrastructure Indaba since 2020, a great opportunity for delegates to engage, network, and share experiences with fellow consulting engineers, lawyers, economists, government officials and other specialists from the engineering and built environment.

“The purpose of the annual Infrastructure Indaba is to share ideas on optimising efficiencies in infrastructure investment and implementation while ensuring investments are sustainable,” states CESA CEO Chris Campbell. The audience who will benefit from this information-rich event include public officials, engineering consultants, suppliers and contractors involved in all aspects of infrastructure development, maintenance, and service delivery. “Critical to the success of this important event will be deliberations between industry partners, client bodies and funding agencies, all pursuing the same objective, albeit from differing perspectives” states Campbell.

The sessions this year include topics on Infrastructure Development/Energy Infrastructure Services; Capacity Building for Sustainable Delivery; Transformation & Development; Procurement & Public Infrastructure Projects; Engineering Capability & Technology; and Water Security.

The speaker line-up includes Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, head of the Investment and Infrastructure office in the office of the President of South Africa; Jan Oberholzer, Eskom Chief Operations Officer; Refilwe Buthelezi, President of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA); Chuene Ramphele, Group Executive, Infrastructure Delivery at Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) and several other distinguished speakers discussing pertinent issues related to infrastructure development.

The previous in-person Infrastructure Indaba hosted in 2020 was a huge success, focussing on numerous current and future consulting engineering and built environment challenges, successes, and industry trends. This year’s, theme, “Engineering the Future Now” is all the more pertinent if we consider many of our past and more recent experiences, where the need to build back better and faster, has become an even greater imperative. The 2022 Infrastructure Indaba therefore promises to be even better.
