Public Service and Administration Minister, Ms Ayanda Dlodlo, will reward the creative achievements and contributions of public servants who go an extra mile in accelerating service delivery at the annual National Batho Pele Excellence Awards NBPEA.

The NBPEA are aimed at bolstering the values of improving service delivery, professionalizing the public service as envisaged in the National Development Plan (NDP). The awards provide public servants, with an opportunity to learn and share best practice from fellow colleagues who are performing better and in some cases being innovative.

This also helps in terms of avoiding re-inventing the wheel while at the same time reward excellent performance and gauge the citizens’ satisfaction levels with regard to government performance. The awards represent a concerted effort by the Ministry for the Public Service and Administration (MPSA) to intensify the creation of an effective, efficient and capable state.

Batho Pele is a Sotho word meaning "People First": this implies that public servants should put communities at the centre when rendering services. Batho Pele is a government initiative that aims to enhance the quality and accessibility of government services by improving efficiency and accountability to the recipients of public goods and services.
