The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Ms Barbara Creecy in partnership with Member of Parliament, Honourable Ntibi Modise, will lead a clean-up campaign scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 05 April 2022, in ward 30, Mogale City.
The clean-up campaign is targeted at three (3) areas namely Seroba, Smoke down and Matselabata informal settlements.
A joint outreach and awareness with Mogale City Municipality, Westrand District Municipality, Gauteng Provincial Government, and the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) on waste management and good environmental practices is envisaged to precede the clean-up campaign on Monday, 4 April 2022.
The clean-up campaign is another platform for the Department to execute its Constitutional mandate of ensuring everyone’s right to an environment which is not harmful to their health or well-being. Also, to have the environment protected for the benefit of present and future generations.
During the launch of the Good Green Deeds in 2019, President Cyril Ramaphosa called on citizens, business, industry, labour and civil society to perform just one Good Green Deed a day such as recycling waste, or conducting clean-up activities. The Good Green Deeds campaign seeks to change people’s attitudes, behaviors towards responsible management of waste, and keeping their neighbourhoods clean, green and safe.
