The Minerals Council South Africa extends its condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Pravin Gordhan.

“Our thoughts are with Mr Gordhan’s family at this difficult time, and his friends and colleagues in government and the private sector,” says Mzila Mthenjane, CEO of the Minerals Council.

The Minerals Council had extensive engagements regarding Transnet with Mr Gordhan during his tenure as Minister of Public Enterprises between 2018 and 2024 when he was overseeing state institutions, like Transnet and Eskom. Those engagements with Mr Gordhan and Transnet’s Board and executive management have laid the groundwork for the National Logistics Crisis Committee to stabilise Transnet Freight Rail’s services and to ultimately restore them to name plate capacity.

Mr Gordhan’s service in government showed an individual of principle and courage.
