The South African Communist Party (SACP) reaffirms its unwavering, militant solidarity with the government and people of Cuba and strongly condemns, once again, the illegal, criminal and inhuman blockade and sanctions imposed on Cuba by the United States imperialist regime. This blockade, which has persisted for over six decades, is the sole cause of the complex and challenging situation the Cuban people endure today.

The power outages in Cuba, compounded by the devastation caused by recent hurricanes, are a direct consequence of the United States imperialist blockade. The blockade’s aim remains unchanged: to cause hardship for Cuban families by creating and aggravating a crisis and attempting to force the proud and independent Cuban nation into submission.

We stand firm in our support as the Cuban government and people deal with the difficulties forced upon them by the imperialist regime of the United States.

We are confident that the heroic people of Cuba, with their dignity and resilience, will continue to resist these challenges. The peace-loving global community stands with Cuba, and we are united in ensuring that the strength and determination of the Cuban government and people will triumph over the United States-led imperialist aggression. For over three decades, since 1992, the United Nations General Assembly has overwhelmingly adopted resolutions condemning the illegal US blockade and its ongoing devastating consequences on the Cuban people, deeming it a violation of the UN Charter and international law.

The SACP calls for the immediate lifting of the illegal, criminal and inhuman blockade and sanctions. We stand with Cuba in its fight, which is a fight for all of humanity against imperialist domination, exploitation and foreign occupation and, accordingly, also reiterate our call for the United States to end its occupation of Cuba’s Guantanamo Bay.

We salute the brave people and government of Cuba and commit to ongoing solidarity until they achieve the justice and freedom they so rightfully deserve.
