Further advancing the project toward its December 24 synchronisation date, power utility Eskom’s Medupi power station project, in Limpopo, has received the Pressure Equipment Regulation Certificate of Registration for Unit 6 – the first Medupi boiler set to be connected to the national electricity grid.
The utility said in a project update on Friday that no user may use a steam generator, or boiler, unless it was in possession of a certificate of registration from the Department of Labour (DoL).
“The process and procedures normally required to achieve this major milestone were accelerated through the establishment of a strong relationship between senior DoL members and Medupi project leaders prior to the submission,” it stated.
Medupi was now ready for its first oil fire, which was scheduled for Friday.
