Mauritius' election commission said on Tuesday final results from the general election showed the opposition Alliance de Changement (ADC) led by Navin Ramgoolam won 62.6% of votes.
The ADC won 60 of the 62 legislative seats, state broadcaster Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation reported, giving three-time former premier Ramgoolam a fourth term.
Ramgoolam said that following his landslide victory he would first dismantle the country's "spying system so that Mauritians will be free to talk".
The Indian Ocean archipelago's incumbent Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth conceded on Monday, saying he tried to do what he could for his country, but that his political alliance was heading for a huge defeat.
