JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Marc Cameron will join Weir as president of the minerals division on October 26 and will become a member of the group executive.
In a media release to Mining Weekly on Wednesday, October 21, Weir plc pointed out that Cameron would be bringing more than a quarter century of leadership experience, spanning mining operations, heavy equipment, technology-led solutions and global commercial roles.
Most recently, Cameron was senior VP resource industries at Caterpillar, where he led the global commercial organisation and drove growth through integrated, customer-focused solutions and services. He also led the expansion of Caterpillar’s portfolio of data-driven mining technology and software solutions, Weir stated.
Before joining Caterpillar in 2020, Cameron spent nearly two decades with mining major Rio Tinto where he held senior operational and leadership roles, which included being MD of Rio Tinto Kennecott and president and CEO of the Diavik Diamond Mine. Across these roles, he led large, integrated mining operations with responsibility for safety, operational performance, strategy development and execution, and talent development.
Originally from New Brunswick, Canada, Cameron will be based in Fort Worth, US.
“I’m delighted to welcome Marc to Weir. His deep mining operations experience, combined with his global commercial and technology expertise, gives him a strong understanding of our customers and the challenges they face,” commented Weir CEO Andrew Neilson, who expressed confidence that Cameron would build on the mineral division’s leading technology portfolio and close customer relationships to accelerate growth.
Weir described itself as a developer of mining equipment and digital solutions that help customers improve productivity by moving less rock, using less energy, using water wisely and creating less waste.
With around 12 000 employees operating in more than 50 countries, it is positioned to benefit from long-term structural trends including the growing need for critical minerals to support economic development, the transition to renewable energy, and the drive to decarbonise resource extraction.
Weir’s ordinary shares trade on the London Stock Exchange and its American depositary receipts over-the-counter in the US.
