Limpopo’s permanent delegates to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) and their provincial counterparts held a successful first day of their Provincial Week programme in the province.
Welcomed by the Speaker of the Limpopo Legislature, Ms Makoma Makhurupetje, the delegation was briefed on the state of the provincial and municipal infrastructure projects in the Waterberg District Municipality in a hybrid meeting held at the Lephalale Local Municipality.
The Premier, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, gave an overview of the province’s infrastructure projects and thanked the delegation for their visit.
The MECs for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure and Cooperative Government, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA) also briefed delegates. The mayors of Waterberg District Municipality, Lephalale and Mogalakwena local municipalities and the Department of Water and Sanitation also gave presentations. The delegation then conducted an inspection in loco at COGHSTA’s unfinished housing project and the informal settlement in Marapong, Lephalale.
The provincial whip to the NCOP and leader of the delegation, Mr Malesela Mokwele, said there will be an oversight report by Friday with clear recommendations. “Gone are the days where oversight reports would be developed and no one follows up on the recommendations. This time around, we are going to do things differently,” he said.
Tomorrow, the delegation will conduct an inspection in loco at a wastewater plant in Thabo Mbeki township and Northam and a housing project in the Regorogile Extension 8.
Provincial Week is the NCOP’s flagship programme, and this year, it is themed “Confronting the challenges facing the timely delivery of viable public infrastructure to communities.”
Issued by the Parliamentary Communication Services on behalf of the leader of the delegation, Malesela Mokwele
