The Limpopo Provincial Government is mourning the passing on of MEC Joy Matshoge last night in a car accident between Mookgophong and Mokopane on the N1 highway heading South.

Premier Chupu Mathabatha send his heartfelt condolences to the Matshoge families, relatives and colleagues. Mme Joyce Matshoge was a visionary, dedicated and hard working. She worked tirelessly to ensure food production and food security is taken to greater height in the Province.

MEC Matshoge’s experience and knowledge will leave a huge gap in the provincial cabinet. She spend the whole day yesterday at Gilimburg Citrus Estate with workers and management. Her death is a great loss to government and agricultural community.

As the Provincial Government, we call upon people to support the family during this hard time. Details of the cause of the accident are still under investigation, the media and the public will be updated on the matter.

She was appointed the Member of Executive Council for Agriculture and Rural Development on May 2014 by Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha. Mme Matshoge worked at Modimolle local municipality as Manager: Waste Management under Social Services, Waterberg District as Director responsible for Social Services.

She served as member of Provincial Legislature in various portfolios and Deputy Speaker. During her time at the Legislature, Joyce Matshoge Chaired Portfolio Committee for CoGHSTA and served as a member for various committees like Public Works and Social Development.

Details of funeral arrangements will be made available later in the week.
