The MMC for Human Settlements in the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Anthea Leitch, will join the Minister for Human Settlements, Mmamoloko Kubayi, Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements and Infrastructure Development, Lebohang Maile and the Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Kabelo Gwamanda to launch another mega project on 25 August 2023.
The One Month, One Building campaign aims to deliver one development a month to contribute towards reversing the housing backlog in the City of Johannesburg. The launch aims to declare the first two phases of the Riverside View Social Housing Project yielding 180 units, complete and ready for occupation by new beneficiaries to whom keys will be handed over.
There will also be a sod-turning for the phase 3 construction of the project due to commence next month.
Riverside development is in Region A near Diepsloot and Steyn City and is expected to yield 1 108 units. The project was developed by the Johannesburg Social Housing Company, JOSHCO, the City’s agent responsible for delivering social and affordable rental accommodation to residents of the city earning between R3 500 – R22 000.
JOSHCO believes in creating homely, energy-efficient homes that promote a healthy and environmentally conscious lifestyle.
The Riverside View Social Housing Project’s fundamental objective is to empower low-income families and individuals from diverse backgrounds while providing adequate and affordable homes.
This project demonstrates the City's constant dedication to building a better future for residents, where an individual has access to safe, comfortable, and sustainable housing.
Often confused for RDP units, these Social Housing projects are strictly rental units and the process of allocation relies on an application system that qualifies beneficiaries who meet the required criteria. The project also displays unity in all spheres of Government by joining forces to combat the current crisis of human settlements for the residents.
