Greytown Hospital Security Officers lauded for their vigilance in apprehending a rape suspect of a 4 year old girl
KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, together with the Head of Department, Dr Sibongile Zungu, has commended the alert and vigilant security officers who apprehended a man while he was allegedly raping a four year old girl at Greytown Hospital girl last night.
In a joint statement released today, Dr Dhlomo and Dr Zungu said: "We are shocked and disgusted by this despicable act, perpetrated against a defenceless child. It is immoral, barbaric and unacceptable and is yet another example of how children's rights are still being violated by those who are supposed to care and protect them. We thank the security guards who came to this child's rescue. We wish to appeal to the law authorities to ensure that the perpetrator behind this dastardly act is made to face the full might of the law."
The attack on a 4 year old girl happened during the evening visiting hour at the Greytown Hospital. It is understood that the girl was with other children accompanying their grandmother who was visiting a relative in the female ward. The children were left playing by the door of the ward and soon it was realised that one was missing.
Upon a prompt search by the hospital security, a 23 year old suspect was allegedly found molesting the girl. He was apprehended and handed over to the police.
Speaking in his capacity as the Provincial Chairperson of the Men’s Forum, Dhlomo said: ‘Men in Greytown should come out in large numbers when the suspect appears in court to support the victim and declare that this horrific act is not done in their name. it is a shame that this incident comes as South Africa is engaged in various anti-abuse activities as part of 16 Days of No Violence Against Women.’
