KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube will, on Thursday 28 May 2020, visit several schools around uThukela District Municipality as the Cabinet Sukuma Sakhe-appointed MEC Champion for the district.

Dube-Ncube’s visit forms part of the critical assessment, inspection and readiness for schools reopening under the Lockdown Level 3 regulations set to commence on Monday, 1 June 2020.

Dube-Ncube will visit two school under Okhahlamba Local Municipality (Bergville) namely; Woodford  Primary  School and Ekwaluseni High School. She and her team will then proceed to Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality (Estcourt) to inspect Mpumelelo High School and Phumalanga Primary School. 

The schools have been identified by the district which will accompany the MEC to ensure the status of readiness.

“We are in a particularly critical time for Covid-19 and I think that is understood by all those who are concerned. We are also concerned about the young people’s lives. This visit will ensure that we get to take informed decisions to minimise any danger and to protect our children and educators from transmission. We are glad and applaud the efforts by the KZN Department of Education in ensuring that schools take first priority for safety,” said Dube-Ncube ahead of the visit.
