The Democratic Alliance in KwaDukuza Local Municipality has opposed the municipality’s 2022/23 financial year budget.
The budget that had initially failed last week, was passed yesterday during a full council sitting.
There was no consideration for the increases in the cost of living which is being felt across the country. Apart from being left reeling from the Covid-19 pandemic, the July unrest, and two separate flooding incidents, the municipality still would not budget on the increases in rates, tariffs, and refuse removal.
DA ward councillors received veiled threats with regards to service delivery being compromised because of our stand.
The budget was passed as the single-seat parties voted with the ANC. It, therefore, proves that a vote for a smaller party is a vote for the ANC.
Issued by Councillor Tammy Colley - DA KwaDukuza Caucus Leader
