Tomorrow, 19 May 2022 at 10h00, ActionSA National Director of Operations, John Moodey, and Gauteng Provincial Chairperson, Bongani Baloyi will join the #JusticeForLilyMine March to the Office of the Premier of Mpumalanga, Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane.
The primary aim of the March is to demand that the business rescue practitioners who were found in contempt of court be made to comply with a court order to convene a creditors’ meeting toward sale of Lily Mine.
The sale, upon conclusion, will be on condition that the container that has entombed Pretty Nkambule, Solomon Nyirenda and Yvonne Mnisi be retrieved. The three miners met their untimely demise when the lamp room container they were in fell into a sinkhole about 70m underground on 5 February 2016.
The business rescue practitioners have been dragging their feet for almost two years, while the families of the three miners have been camping outside the mine in a makeshift tent for over three years now.
ActionSA supports the efforts of the miners and their families in demanding that the South African Government hold the business rescue practitioners accountable and secure justice for the Lily Mine families.
Issued by ActionSA National Spokesperson Lerato Ngobeni
