Newly elected City of Johannesburg Mayor Jolidee Matongo on Wednesday announced the 10 members of his Mayoral Committee (MMC’s), with most unchanged in the portfolios assigned by the late former mayor Geoff Makhubo.

Matongo was elected unopposed on Monday at a special City of Johannesburg council meeting after the post was left vacant following the passing of Makhubo in July.

The City of Johannesburg said in a statement that the choice of MMCs is in support of the theme of continuation with the implementation of the Government of Local Unity’s priorities, which are aligned to the Joburg Growth and Development Strategy 2040.

The Finance Portfolio is assigned to Matshidiso Mfikoe who replaces Matongo. Thomas Mofekeng will replace Lawrence Khoza in the Economic Development portfolio.

Portfolios that remained unchanged include the Environment and Infrastructure Services, which is headed by Mpho Moerane; Housing which is overseen by Mlungisi Mabaso; Transport, lead by Helen Makhuba and Health and Social Development, which retains Eunice Mgcina.

Loyiso Masuku stays in Group Corporate Shared Services, Margaret Arnolds still holds Community Development, Thapelo Amad remains Development Planning MMC and Mally Mokoena retains Public Safety.
