Under the leadership of Mayor Herman Mashaba, the DA-led coalition government in the City of Johannesburg Metro has over the last 18 months made significant progress in delivering on its three broad election commitments of stopping corruption, creating job opportunities and delivering quality services.

The deliberate interventions by the new government have been so effective that since taking office over 1 year ago, Mayor Mashaba and his team have achieved what the ANC failed to do in over 20 years.

Thursday’s motion of no confidence in the new Joburg administration is nothing but a ploy by the ANC to regain control of the people of Joburg’s money and reverse the great work of the DA-led administration. The ANC’s priority is not the people, they are focused on looting.

The ANC cannot allow word of the DA-led coalition’s successes in Joburg to spread to other parts of Gauteng where the ANC still governs. Where the ANC still governs in Gauteng, service delivery is non-existent, jobs are lost every day and billions of Rands worth of corruption rob people of opportunities.

The work we do in Joburg is only just a taste of what is to come when the people of the Gauteng vote for a new government and new beginning in 2019.

With the DA at the helm, the people of Joburg will always come first, this will not be the case under a different administration. The people of Joburg voted for a new beginning, which has already:

• Uncovered 2 000 cases of ANC-linked corruption worth R17-billion, which are currently under investigation;
• Over 2 000 title deeds have been delivered to residents who have waited for the dignity of home ownership for many years, and the City has started delivering services to 51 informal settlements neglected by the previous administration; and
• Joburg is now safer with 1 500 more Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) Officers on the streets

With Mayor Mashaba, real change has come and a new beginning has dawned for the people of Johannesburg.

To make our voices heard in support of the progress made, thousands of Joburg residents will gather as follows:

Date: Thursday, 30 November 2017
Time: 08:30
Gathering Point: Pieter Roos Park, Empire Road, Parktown
End Point: Johannesburg City Council

We call upon all Joburg residents to come out in their numbers to ensure that we Keep Making Progress in Joburg.
