The Joburg Development Agency (JDA) has restarted the construction of roads and stormwater infrastructure in Bramfischerville Ext 12, Soweto.

The implementation of the project has undergone many challenges. The two previous contractors who started the work had their contracts terminated due to poor performance, which delayed completion of the project.

Bramfischerville is one of the focus areas for the City of Johannesburg in terms of addressing service delivery in marginalised areas across the City.

The construction of roads and stormwater infrastructure in the area is back on track after the JDA appointed DKBP Construction, which will complete the undone scope of works. The overall scope of works to be undertaken includes:

  • Construction of new stormwater infrastructure and associated works.
  • Protection of services.
  • Remedial work to existing stormwater services and,
  • Construction of signage and markings,
  • Construction of attenuation dam and fencing.

The JDA aims to create short-term job opportunities and employ community-based emerging contractors. To date, 35 job opportunities and five community-based emerging contractors are part of the project.

The JDA’s Executive Manager: Project Implementation, Siyabonga Genu, said: “This project has had various challenges in the past that have delayed its implementation, but we are happy that the JDA made sure this project is back on track.”

“The safety of the public and all affected parties remains of the utmost importance to us. We apologise for the inconvenience caused,” Siyabonga said.
