The Department of Military Veterans (DMV) in partnership with the Government Communication and Information Systems (GCIS) will host an inter-generational youth webinar on the contribution of the June 16 Detachment to the struggle for liberation.
The participants will include surviving unsung heroes of the June 16 Detachment from various Liberation Movements such as Mkhonto we Sizwe (MK), Azanian People’s Liberation Army Military (APLA) and Azanian Liberation Army (AZANLA) who have fought for freedom, injustice and democracy and children of military veterans who received the DMV education support benefit, and have since completed their studies.
The DMV is mandated to honour, all these constitutional military veterans firmly believing and cognizant of the fact that they are the greatest heritage of any nation The documentation of these military veterans’ stories will further consolidate the country’s steps towards reconciliation, nation building and the deepening our democracy. The inter-generational dialogue represents the recognition of those heroes and heroines who should be enshrined in the country’s history for their sacrifices that brought freedom to the country.
