Tomorrow, Thursday 16 November 2023, ActionSA will join a picket outside Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi’s office in support of Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP) health workers who have worked on a contractual basis for 10 years under the programme led by the Gauteng Department of Health.
Despite multiple commitments by the Department to absorb these workers who survive on a measly R3 500 per month stipend, it has fallen short on its promises and failed to permanently employ them.
The workers are demanding to be employed and absorbed by the Department as permanent employees who also receive benefits such as pension and UIF. The rising cost of living has made it near impossible for families to survive in the current arrangement.
ActionSA stands with these workers and will fight for their right to employment. As a party we value and advocate for the insourcing of all workers and will therefore ensure that this is achieved.
Present at the protest will be ActionSA Gauteng Provincial Campaign Manager, Philip Dolo, Johannesburg Regional Chairperson, Emma More, Joburg Caucus Leader, Nobuhle Mthembu, including Gauteng Youth Forum Provincial Chairperson, Advice Chuma, and party members & activists.
Members of the media are invited to the oversight visit which will start as follows:
