The IFP has won a by election in Ward 7, Albert Luthuli municipality, Gert
Sibande District in Mpumalanga Province. The IFP was contesting the
by-election for the first time in Mpumalanga. The by-election was heavily
contested by IFP, ANC and Cope. This was a ward which was always an ANC
ward.
The IFP candidate, 23 year-old Thembinkosi Zulu, received 393 votes
comprehensively beating the ANC, which managed to get 343 votes. IFP NEC
member, Mr. Albert Mncwango said, "We are extremely happy with these results
particularly because our candidate comes from the ranks of the IFP youth
brigade. He managed to mobilize young people to vote for the IFP. This is a
clear indication that young people are tired of empty promises and poor
service delivery by the ANC led Albert Luthuli municipality. They are now
determined to give the IFP a chance to use its vast experience in service
delivery."
Mncwango concluded, "Our plans for the upcoming general elections are
clearly beginning to bear fruit. The people of Mpumalanga are tired of poor
service delivery, empty promises, corruption and poor leadership. The IFP
provides a very credible alternative to the failed ANC."
