The Inkatha Freedom Party in KwaZulu-Natal has welcomed the arrest of a police officer with three other suspects in connection with some of the murders at Durban's Glebelands Hostel.

“As the IFP we are very concerned about the police officers alleged to be colluding with criminals. Police officers are the custodians of law and order. They are there to protect members of the community in a fair and just manner. Police officers accused of being involved in any criminal activities must be prosecuted to the might full of law.

We cannot allow the SAPS to become a nest of criminals thereby losing the confidence of the community,” said IFP KZN Provincial Spokesperson on Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Blessed Gwala MPL.

“Furthermore, The Inkatha Freedom Party calls on government to strengthen its regulations and take swift action against the unlawful use of South African Police Services’ uniforms. Police uniforms and other SAPS resources are being utilised by criminals in a number of illegal activities. We want to know where these criminals acquired SAPS uniforms and what the police ministry is doing about this.

The arrest sends a strong message that police officers alleged to be involved in criminal activities will be arrested and face the full might of the law,” concluded Mr Gwala.
