At a question session in Parliament today, the leader of Jacob Zuma’s MK Party, John Hlophe MP, disgracefully abused Parliament to do the Guptas bidding trying to undermine the legal process to have them extradited to South Africa.

Hlophe attempted to use Parliament today to find and expose flaws in the Guptas extradition process, on the part of the NPA. Hlophe’s question read like the opening argument of the Guptas lawyers in court.

It is clear that the Zuma – Gupta years are far from over. While the government of South Africa attempts to have the Guptas brought to justice here, Zuma and his party will use Parliament to keep them away, and keep them shielded from justice.

After trying his best to undermine the legal process to have the Guptas extradited, Hlophe disgracefully went to the merits of the Gupta’s crimes against every person in South Africa, asking the Minister and Parliament “what are their crimes?”

The DA rejects this transparent and obvious effort by John Hlophe to use Parliament to defend the Guptas, and do their bidding against their extradition.

It is high time that the Guptas face the full might of the South African criminal justice system and neither Jacob Zuma, nor John Hlophe can stop that.
