Parliament is seized with preparations for the conclusion of the sixth Parliament and the establishment of the seventh parliamentary term. Both Houses of Parliament – the National Assembly (NA) and the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) – will wrap up the work of the sixth Parliament this week by considering various bills, motions, and committee reports. 
  
Both the NA and NCOP plenaries are scheduled for 10 am on Thursday. The National Assembly will consider four bills – the Older Persons Amendment Bill, the Housing Consumer Protection Bill, the Children’s Amendment Bill, as well as the Responsible Spending Bill.  
 
The NA hybrid plenary will also consider the following committee reports:  

Recommendation of a person for appointment as Deputy Public Protector 

Review of Code of Ethical Conduct and Disclosure of Members’ Interests for Assembly and Permanent Council Members 

Alleged protected disclosure made by the former Director-General of the Department of Public Enterprises 

Report of the Independent Panel established in accordance with Rule 129U to conduct a preliminary inquiry relating to a motion proposing the removal of Mr Mbuyiselo Botha from office as a commissioner of the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) in terms of Section 194 of Constitution. 

 
The NCOP hybrid plenary will consider seven bills – the Division of Revenue Bill, the Pension Fund Amendment Bill, the Gold and Foreign Exchange Amendment Bill, the Municipal Demarcation Authority Bill, the Statistics Amendment Bill, the Preservation of Agricultural Land Bill, as well as the National Nuclear Regulator Amendment Bill. The bills were passed by the NA and were sent to the NCOP for concurrence. 
 
Outstanding matters and bills that are not concluded when the sixth term expires will be deferred to the seventh Parliament to ensure continuity and smooth transition.  
 
There are eight committee meetings scheduled for this week:

 Select Committee on Transport, Public Service and Administration, Public Works and Infrastructure: Continuation of Deliberations on Negotiating Mandates: Transport Appeal Tribunal Amendment Bill; Marine Pollution (Prevention of Pollution from Ships) Amendment Bill.
 
Select Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Water and Sanitation and Human Settlements: Update on the processing of the Independent Municipal Demarcation Authority Bill. 
 
Select Committee on Finance: Consideration of the Committee Legacy Report 
 
WEDNESDAY, 8 MAY
