Defence and Military Veterans Minister Thandi Modise sent her condolences to the family of a South African National Defence Force (SANDF) member who was fatally shot.
Another SANDF member suffered injuries when their Oryx helicopter came under fire in Goma, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Sunday.
The injured member managed to continue flying the chopper and landed safely at Goma Airport.
The SANDF is currently in the process of informing family members involved.
Defence and Military Veterans Deputy Minister Thabang Makwetla, the Acting Secretary for Defence Dr Thobekile Gamede and SANDF Chief General Rudzani Maphwanya also expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased and wish the wounded soldier a speedy recovery.
