The Department of Defence and Military Veterans is urging all qualifying military veterans to apply for the recently rolled-out Military Veterans Pension.
The department said on Thursday that the pension was a “rational, balanced, equitable, and morally acceptable government intervention” intended to ensure that no military veteran was left without a State pension.
The pension is legislated in the Military Veterans Act of 2011. Following public engagement, which bolstered the regulations that govern the implementation of the Act, the pension was rolled out in April.
All eligible veterans, as set out in the draft regulations, can apply for the pension at Government Pension Administration Agency offices.
According to the Government Communication and Information System, over 600 applications have already been received since the commencement of the pension rollout.
