Government partners with universities to strengthen research and innovation

Premier David Makhura will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the institutions of higher learning based in the province on Wednesday, 24 May 2017. The institutions are University of Pretoria, University of the Witwatersrand, University of South Africa, University of Johannesburg, Tshwane University of Technology, Vaal University of Technology and Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University.

The MOU will bring government and higher learning institutions together to work in partnership in pursuit of common interests such as research and development, innovation and the advancement of the knowledge-based economy.

Areas of collaboration identified in the memorandum include, energy security and water security; economic growth and development; governance and public administration and environment sustainability.

The signing of this memorandum of understanding confirms the commitment of the Gauteng Provincial Government to work with various stakeholders in pursuit of the vision of building an integrated, economically inclusive, sustainable and socially cohesive competitive city region.
