To help prevent a resurgence of Covid-19 infections, government is encouraging sports fans to follow a series of precautionary measures and regulations as they return to stadiums.

On Monday President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the lifting of the National State of Disaster, after 750 days.

While the end of the National State of Disaster allows for social gatherings and for fans to return to stadiums, government stresses that the Covid-19 pandemic is not over.

Government is calling for all eligible, unvaccinated and partially vaccinated citizens to become fully vaccinated to help prevent the resurgence of the pandemic.

Vaccinated sports spectators must present their vaccination certificates and proof of ID at stadiums.

Unvaccinated spectators can only enter stadiums on condition that they present negative PCR test results not older than 72 hours.

Meanwhile, vaccination teams will be available at stadiums to assist with vaccination.

“The devastating impact of the Covid-19 pandemic extends to all sporting codes, affecting sportsmen and women, artists, the creative sector, and those involved in the secondary aspects of the industry like events coordinators, promoters and sponsors. The lifting of the National State of Disaster will bring reprieve to these said industries and revive the forging of social cohesion through recreational activities,” said the Government Communication and Information System.
