The State Capture, White Monopoly Capital and Radical Economic Transformation debate, in South Africa, has gained momentum in recent months, and it will grow in significance over time as the nation seeks clarity on the concepts.
Questions abound: What is State Capture? Who is doing the capturing? How? What are the short and long-term consequences? How can it be challenged? Where does radical economic transformation fit into the equation? What role can intellectuals play in this contest of social forces?
South Africa’s former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and former Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas, will reflect on the concepts of State Capture, White Monopoly Capital and Radical Economic Transformation when they address a seminar at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) on Wednesday, 26 July 2017.
The University’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof Ihron Rensburg, will deliver the opening remarks of the seminar, hosted by UJ’s Departments of Politics and International Relations, Sociology, Anthropology and Development Studies, at the Library Auditorium (6th Floor) Auckland Park, Kingsway Campus. The lecture is scheduled to start at 3:30pm.
