Local ANC Councillors were given a sobering reality check in the Overstrand Local Municipality Council meeting yesterday when they ended up being the only political party that voted in favour of a Motion of No Confidence – brought by themselves against DA Mayor Annalie Rabie.

Since her inauguration in 2021, Mayor Rabie has elevated Overstrand to one of the best performing municipalities in the Western Cape much to the disappointment of a handful of detractors, including leaders of failing and failed political parties, who continually embarrass themselves with public utterances devoid of fact.

The DA-run Overstrand Municipality just received their 11th clean audit outcome proving that they are managing public funds responsibly. This places the Municipality among the top 5% of local municipalities in South Africa to have received three or more consecutive clean audits.

Through the combined efforts of the Mayor and her team, Overstrand was awarded “The Best Municipality” in the Western Cape in May last year, demonstrating their commitment to first-rate service delivery, good government principles and citizen-centricity through transparent, accessible and responsive governance.

Overstrand Municipality also boasts the accolade of being the top Blue Drop (water quality), Green Drop (performance of wastewater management systems) and No Drop (water losses) performer in the country.

Voters place high value in sound policy implementation, as is evident by the 65.5% of voters in Overstrand who rewarded the DA for good governance in the past elections with their vote.

This is in stark contrast with residents in ANC-run municipalities who are often left to bear the brunt of poor service delivery, crumbling infrastructure and very little basic services where billions of rands are wasted or lost to corruption. And as evident in the recent by-elections in Cederberg Ward 2, voters booted out the ANC following a sustained period of empty promises and bad governance.

Voters will continue to punish political parties trying to destabilise proficient DA municipalities with bogus motions and personal attacks on hard-working Councillors.
