The Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) has urged all communities in South Africa to embrace the government’s Vooma Vaccination Programme by getting their jab this weekend on Friday and Saturday, 1 and 2 October 2021. This will be the first in a series of jab weekends aimed at getting up to 70 percent of all adults vaccinated by the end of this year.
Under this programme, all 3000 vaccination sites across the country that have been set up by the government in collaboration with private sector have been prepared to bypass the previous Electronic Vaccination Data System. This takes out all the hassle of waiting for that magical SMS. Jab candidates just need to
walk into a vaccination site and get vaccinated. It is not painful at all. Just a mild irritation on the right arm. What is more, you save your life and those your colleagues and loved ones. It’s worth giving it a try.
Official statistics speak for those who have departed this world because of the dangerous COVID-19 pandemic. More than 98 percent of people over the age 60 years who were recently hospitalised for COVID-19 in the Western Cape and later passed on had not been vaccinated. The Department of Health has observed similar patterns across the country.
An impassioned plea from government sums up the spirit of Vooma Vaccination Weekends:
“The sooner we are all vaccinated, the sooner we can live without fear and restrictions; each and every one of us has a national duty to be vaccinated or to convince our family, friends and co-workers that vaccination is safe”.
Get the jab and stay alive.
