Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Dr Ismail Vadi, has announced that the departmental road maintenance teams have been dispatched to attend to flooded provincial roads.
Though there are no provincial roads reported to be structurally damaged as a result of the continuing heavy rain storms, some roads were affected due to debris.
“The departmental team is currently clearing rubbles at the Witkoppen Road bridges including storm water drainages across all provincial roads. Furthermore, the stand-by team has been assembled to attend to any emergencies that might occur,” said Vadi.
MEC Vadi has appealed to motorists to exercise extra caution on the roads as heavy rains are expected to continue throughout the province.
Motorists are urged to avoid roads in low-lying areas that are prone to flooding.
