71 young people received recruitment and ICT training from the Gauteng Department of e-Government’s ICT expo known as ‘Youth Tech Expo’ hosted at the beginning of the year in 2023.
The ICT Expo was hosted with the aim to empower young people from Townships, Informal Settlements, and Hostels with knowledge of the ICT sector, career opportunities as well as training and mentorship programs. This was made possible through various partnerships with the business sector, who played a critical role in enabling employment and training opportunities for the youth.
From the ICT expo, 22 young people are placed in the ICT Skills training program by IT Think, 25 are placed in an Entrepreneurship program by Prime Stars, 20 are placed with Afribiz from the program dubbed Period Poverty, and 4 young women are placed with Women Distribution Channel program by Assupol Life. In addition to this, 5 young people were awarded with 5 laptops to help them in managing their small businesses and academics.
Therefore, the event is hosted to support, motivate, and celebrate these young people who have made great strides in uplifting their lives through the ICT expo.
