Gauteng Provincial Government and municipalities remain seized with the problem that resulted from the flash floods which caused severe damages to vehicles and infrastructure.
The flash floods affected areas mostly around Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni. A number of vehicles were trapped on the N3 around the Gillooly's interchange.
Regrettably four people lost their lives as the result of these flash floods. The Gauteng Provincial Government expresses sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
The Provincial Government regrets the inconvenience caused to motorists. Government will do everything possible to clear the affected roads.
The Gauteng government has activated the Johannesburg Disaster Management Centre to coordinate government efforts to investigate the extent of damage and the any need for assistance. The team is looking at houses and informal settlements that have been affected.
Special attention will be given to areas like Alexandra township particularly the areas along Jukskei river. The Centre will work with all government departments who will be identified to support affected people. We take this opportunity to thank those who extended a helping hand.
