The Gauteng e-Government's Portfolio Committee, under the leadership of Portfolio Chairperson Ms. Mbali Hlophe, conducted a comprehensive oversight visit to the Gauteng’s Provincial Government Security Operations Center (SOC) and the Network Operations Centre (NOC) in Rivonia, Johannesburg.
Accompanied by the e-Government management team, led by Head of Department Mr. Castro Mosina, the visit aimed to assess the current state of critical infrastructure and review the latest e-services initiatives.
The oversight visit commenced with a detailed tour at both the Security Operations Center and the Network Operations Centre. The SOC ensures the safety and security of the Gauteng province, by overseeing a range of security operations and responses, while the NOC ensures the stability and performance of network operations
The Committee observed firsthand the SOC’s capabilities in real-time threat monitoring and incident management, and Ms. Hlophe expressed her satisfaction with the state-of-the-art facilities.
"Our oversight visit to the Security Operations Center and the Network Operations Centre has reinforced our confidence in the province's commitment to safeguarding its digital and network environments. It is evident that the team is dedicated to ensuring robust security measures are in place", said Ms. Hlophe.
Following the tour, the committee received a detailed brief and demonstration of several developed e-services and e-policing. This included an overview of the Gauteng Job Centre and an in-depth look at Gauteng's e-policing initiatives.
The Gauteng Job Centre, a key initiative aimed at bridging the employment gap, was showcased for its user-friendly interface and comprehensive job-hunting and job-application capabilities. The e-policing system, featuring the e-Panic button and advanced CCTV surveillance, was highlighted for its potential to improve real-time emergency response and overall public safety.
Mr. Mosina emphasized the importance of these e-services, by stating, "The integration of these advanced e-services is a testament to our commitment to leveraging technology to better serve the residents of Gauteng. One of our critical e-service, the Gauteng Job Centre is designed to address pressing needs and enhance our ability to respond unemployment challenges that are facing the residents of Gauteng".
