Gauteng dam levels are stable this week as the province’s temperatures are expected to gradually rise from freezing conditions.
The dam levels currently sit comfortably at 96.8% this week, and this indicates a slight decline compared to the same time last year when the levels stood at 99.5%.
Almost all the dams in the province are in a good state as some are floating above 100% full capacity mark, while others are edging close to these impressive levels.
Bon Accord Dam has this week recorded 105.1%, defying the effects of winter season whereby dams experience shrinking levels. This shows improvement compared to last year at the same period, when the dam was recorded at 104.8%.
Bronkhorstspruit Dam has shown a slight drop from last week’s levels, moving from 92.5 % last week to 91.9% this week. The dam stood at 98.3% in the same week last year.
Rietvlei Dam has remained unchanged this week at 99.8%. Rietvlei Dam is among some of the dams that have shown stability lately.
In contrast, Roodeplaat Dam is currently stable at 100.3%, slightly higher than last year’s 100.1%. The dam ranks among those that have remained stable up to now, even during the dry winter season.
As Gauteng is feeling the impact of winter, the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) is urging water consumers in the province to be careful in their water use.
