The FW de Klerk Foundation takes great pleasure in announcing that Doctor Johan "Rassie" Erasmus, national coach of the Springbok team, will be the recipient of its 2024 FW de Klerk Goodwill Award.
The award, established in 2010, gives recognition to individuals and organisations that have made extraordinary contributions to the promotion of goodwill between South Africans and uniting South Africans behind a common course.
The FW de Klerk Foundation has chosen Doctor Johan "Rassie" Erasmus as the recipient of this year’s Goodwill Award, because of his passion, devotion and brilliance in leading the Springboks to World Cup glory in 2019 and 2023. His role as coach, inspires people from all walks of life, instills pride and promotes nation-building.
The work of the FW de Klerk Foundation resonates with the non-racial, meritocratic, humble and patriotic values espoused by Rassie during his tenure as the national coach.
The Springboks’ victories continue to unite South Africans in celebration and also serve to inspire every citizen to derive important life lessons about working together as a nation, mutual respect, tolerance, humanity, perseverance, teamwork, discipline, leadership and serving the interest of all of our people.
President Ramaphosa, in a news release dated 30 October 2023, states the following: “The Springbok team is one of the best rugby teams in the history of the sport. But they are far more than that. They are also great ambassadors for our country and for the values that continue to drive our efforts to build a united, more equal and prosperous nation”. With these views the Foundation fully concurs.
To this end the FW de Klerk Foundation is dedicated to help build a just, peaceful and prosperous nation based on constitutional and democratic values as embedded in our National Constitution. Doctor Johan "Rassie" Erasmus’ visionary and dedicated leadership in rugby, shows that with ethical and passionate leadership at all levels of society, achieving this vision is possible.
