Eight people died in a collision between an Interstate bus and a Sedaka Logistics truck on N8 near Botshabelo this morning just before 7h00.
It is alleged that the truck driver overtook the bus when he noticed an oncoming vehicle. In an attempt to avoid a head on collision, he swayed the truck toward the left lane and crashed into the front right of the bus resulting into this horrendous accident .
It is reported that three passengers are critically injured, while nineteen are moderately injured and thirty two have minor injuries. Twenty two patients were taken to the Botshabelo Hospital, Nine to Moroka hospital , ten to Pelonomi hospital and one to Rosepark life hospital.
MEC for the Department of Police, Roads and Transport (DPR&T) William Bulwane wishes to extend heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wishes a speedy recovery to all the injured.
" I wish to urge all road users to please respect the rules of the road and help us curb road crashes and fatalities on our roads. Road safety starts with each one of us. Let us take that responsibility and save lives" says Bulwane.
