Today the Global African Investment Summit COMESA and Government of Rwanda (TGAIS COMESA Rwanda) announces that His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, will be attending the upcoming investment summit.
President Museveni has indicated his commitment to developing foreign direct investment and international participation in the social and economic development of the Great Lakes region, saying “this is the right time and Uganda the right place because of the big East African market and vast profitability opportunities now available.” His Excellency urged investors to regard Uganda and Africa as a crucial investment destination because of steadily increasing purchasing power and growing market. This objective will be further highlighted at the 2016 Kigali summit where he will engage directly with investors.
The summit will be under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, and is aimed towards promoting investment in a variety of sectors including: education, ICT, development and the economy. Also attending will be various industry experts, heads of state and global business leaders.
Confirmed speakers include:
- Francis Gatare, CEO of the Rwanda Development Board (RDB)
- Dr. Sindiso Ngwenya, COMESA Secretary General
- Lord Dolar Amarshi Popat, UK Government Trade Envoy to Uganda & Rwanda
- Dr. Youssef Boutros Ghali, Former Chairman of the International Monetary and Financial Committee
- Colin Coleman, Managing Director of Goldman Sachs

According to the 2016 Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) report, foreign investment into African projects increased by 0.6 per cent in 2015. The summit, which is focused on achieving tangible outcomes, will be attended by representatives from pension funds, asset management organisations, private equity and sovereign wealth funds, and will be a key factor in the growth of investment in the continent.
Paul Sinclair, Director of The Global African Investment Summit, commented: “The summit seeks to move beyond the conventional ‘Africa on the rise’ conversation, creating a business platform that provides delegates with tangible opportunities to establish relationships and engage with senior government representatives. In his role as head of one of the African countries which has witnessed significant growth in foreign investment, we are glad to welcome President Museveni to The Global African Investment Summit COMESA Rwanda.”
The summit will be held at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village in Kigali, Rwanda, on the 5th and 6th September. For more information or to register to attend please visit http://www.tgaiscomesarwanda.com/
