After its submission to Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene on December 30, the first Davis Tax Committee (DTC) report has been released for public comment.
The First Interim Report on Macro Analysis aimed to articulate a set of overarching principles that would guide an assessment of the current South African tax system, identify existing tax shortcomings and make relevant recommendations for tax reforms.
It would also serve as a useful precursor of other, more specialised reports of the DTC, the committee, which is led by Dennis Davis, said on Friday.
“The Macro Analysis Subcommittee consulted widely and took into account ten submissions from the public in producing the report. Two versions – abridged and full – are now available for public comment on the DTC website,” it said in a statement.
The DTC was formed by former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan in 2013, who tasked it with assessing the South African tax policy framework and its role in supporting the objectives of inclusive growth, employment, development and fiscal sustainability.
