Eskom will implement stage two load shedding from 10am on Thursday, the power utility said.
"We do not have enough generating units, we are forced to implement stage two of load shedding from 10am to 10pm," spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe said.
During stage one blackouts 1 000 MW of the national load is cut and 2 000 MW during stage two.
The utility stated on its Twitter account that any additional changes on the already vulnerable and constrained power system could lead to a change in the stage at short notice.
