On this Women’s Day 2024, Sabinet celebrates the resilience, strength, and brilliance of every woman who dares to dream and achieves the extraordinary. This year the theme of National Women’s Day in South Africa is “Celebrating 30 years of democracy: Towards women’s development”. At Sabinet we believe in celebrating women, on the sports fields and in society in general. This year we also celebrate our Olympic team members—especially the women among them—who are currently  flourishing on the world stage. We are so proud of you!

At Sabinet, more that 50% of the company’s leadership positions are currently filled by women. Each of these women is committed to helping others. “ We are proud of the dedicated and talented women within our organisation and we are privileged to share in their growth and development,” says Sabinet MD Ros Hattingh. “We aim to nurture future talent and enable more women to excel in leadership roles.”

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games, currently winding down in Paris, France, are reportedly the first to reach gender parity, with equal numbers of women and men athletes participating. This remarkable milestone is a testament to the collective achievements of all women athletes who have been breaking records, shattering stereotypes, and inspiring future generations over the years.

A tribute to those helping us achieve gender parity

Today, on Women’s Day 2024, we extend gratitude to the multitudes of women who contribute to the relentless pursuit of a better South Africa and world. Among these heroes are educators, mentors, and coaches who inspire the next generation of women achievers.

The Library and Information Services (LIS) sector is also a hero in this regard, serving as a cornerstone to communities, providing access to information that helps individuals, groups, governments, and organisations come together and work tirelessly to break down the barriers that hinder progress towards gender equality. The LIS sector helps challenge discriminatory norms, advocate for policy changes, and create more opportunities for women and girls to thrive in all aspects of life by providing information and educational resources.

Working towards SDG5

During this Women’s Month, we challenge ourselves to work towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls by 2030. This SDG seeks to eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation. It is essential that we address gender-based violence (GBV).

As we come together to commemorate and honour the remarkable contributions of women, let us stand in solidarity with the people of our country who tirelessly fight against this scourge of violence every single day of the year, recognising that this is a daily battle that cannot be confined to the month of August.

Sabinet remains dedicated to providing the resources that empower this imperative, striving for a future that reflects gender equality and shared progress. On this Women’s Day 2024, Sabinet celebrates the achievements of the strong women who contribute so much to society and advocates for equal opportunities and rights. As the Chinese proverb wisely states, women truly do hold up half the sky.
