The results of the 2024 National and Provincial Elections have confirmed that the DA in the Eastern Cape is moving in the right direction having increased our provincial support since the 2021 local government elections.

This would not have been possible without those resilient supporters of the DA that braved the queues for hours and have kept the DA on  a growth path. We appreciate their sacrifice.

After a decline in support since 2016, the DA has turned the corner and increased our votes from from 226 000 in 2021 to more than 267 000 in 2024.

We remain the second biggest political party in the province, retained our status as the official opposition and increased our seats in the provincial legislature by one to 11 MPLs. This was achieved in spite of the most fractured political landscape and the longest ballot paper in the history of South African elections.

We are also buoyed by some sterling performances across the province.

Residents of the Kouga Municipality came out in their thousands to recognise the progress made by a DA-government after the party’s support increased by 6% between the General Elections of 2019 and 2024.

The results of the 2024 National and Provincial Elections reflect that the DA remains the strongest   party in the Kouga Municipality.

In 2019 the DA in Kouga secured 45,12% on the National Ballot and 47.94% on the Provincial Ballot. This election, the DA increased its majority in Kouga to over 51% on the National Ballot and over 52% on the Provincial Ballot in terms of the closing results in the municipality.

This is a positive endorsement of the DA-governed municipality and an indicator that we can win Kouga again in the 2026 local government elections.

Since taking over the Kouga government in 2016, the DA has turned Kouga into a beacon of service delivery and financial sustainability in the Eastern Cape.

An emerging political trend in the Eastern Cape is also the DA’s ability to win wards from the ANC. We recently won ward 4 from the ANC in the Blue Crane Route Municipality.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the people of the Eastern Cape who placed their trust in the DA and especially the efforts of those who stood in queues to support our mission to Rescue South Africa.
