The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) was awaiting a formal report to institute disciplinary proceedings against councillors who voted with the African National Congress (ANC) in Mogale City on Tuesday, the party said.

“The EFF has taken note of what has happened at the Mogale City Council budget vote. EFF councillors voted together and for the ANC budget. This is the highest form of defiance of the revolutionary tenants of the Economic Freedom Fighters,” said national spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi.

He said the mandate was that they should not vote with the ANC.

“These fighters went against resolutions of the EFF, rendering the non-negotiable cardinal pillar on anti corruption futile. Therefore by voting for the ANC, they have become complicit in normalising corruption and criminality. The EFF awaiting a formal report upon which it will institute disciplinary proceedings against them.”

EFF and Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) voted with the ANC to pass the budget, after the Democratic Alliance (DA) staged a walkout.

“It is the pending resolution of the Central Command Team of the EFF that from Parliament, Legislature, Metros and Municipalities we must never vote with the ANC. The ANC steals the money of the people and has been doing so for the past 23 years, our immediate tactical duty is to unite with all opposition to remove this parasitic and kleptocratic regime of ANC kleptomaniacs,” said Ndlozi.

Despite staging a walkout, the DA said it was committed to serve the residents of Mogale City regardless of political affiliation and hold the ANC accountable.

“Much of the budget includes elements of what the DA proposed under our administration and we welcome this move by the ANC,” DA Cooperative Governance spokesperson Makashule Gana said.

“It must be stated by us that the people of Mogale City come first, stability in the council is imperative to service delivery and residents can be assured that any wrongdoing by the ANC will be met with the strongest action from the DA leadership in Mogale City,” Gana said.

“We will work vigorously towards a better Mogale City for all residents not just those who are connected to the ANC.”
