The EFF welcomes the decision by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Baleka Mbete, to grant the Secret Ballot as a voting procedure for the Motion of No Confidence in Zuma. This is consistent with the Judgement of the Constitutional Court. She had to consider that in this case the circumstances dictate that she protects MPs to exercise their vote without any fear or favour.
Her decision has upheld the interests of our democracy above party loyalty; for this, we applaud her. She has placed the future in the hands of the consciences of each and every individual member of parliament.
Our position is clear, we are not calling on the removal of the ANC. We are calling on the removal of one individual who has broken his oath of office, Jacob Zuma. Democracy means we must be able to move beyond a single individual; we must move beyond him because by undermining the constitution, he has lost the worth to lead the highest public office in the land.
We are therefore calling on ANC members of parliament to follow in the inspiring example of the Speaker of the National Assembly, their Chairperson, Baleka Mbete, and use their consciences to remove a man who has lot his conscience.
We are further calling on all South Africans to join in millions in the National Stayaway tomorrow, the 8 August, 2017. Every school, university, company, factory must allow all people, from 10h00 to demonstrate the whole day and call on the removal of Jacob Zuma. Every South African must occupy any and all public spaces near where you live; raise the South African flag high tomorrow and placards calling on the removal of Zuma.
Let all relatives, friends and colleagues of the ANC MPs call each one of them and appeal to their consciences to remove Zuma from the highest office in the land. Let us all lobby these ANC MPs; burn the midnight oil and ensure we wake up to a day without Zuma as president of the Republic of South Africa.
Finally, let South Africa give itself a new day, a new chapter and a new leadership without Zuma who is corrupt, and who has relegated his powers to a private family of the Guptas.
