The Economic Freedom Fighters sends its deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Comrade Sindiso Magaqa who passed away after suffering from gun wounds inflicted by those whose aim was to assassinate him for political purposes.

Comrade Sindiso Magaqa is the former Secretary General of the ANC Youth League elected in its 24th National Congress in 2011. He is, therefore, part of a generation that proclaimed economic freedom in our lifetime and endured political persecution for his unwavering and courageous association with the legitimate outcomes of the 24th National Congress.

Prior to being a Secretary General, Sindiso Magaqa was a leader of the ANC YL at all levels from branch, region and provincial leadership. He always demonstrated dedication, love and commitment to the struggle of the oppressed people of South Africa.

When a clarion call was made to all Economic Freedom Fighters in and outside the Congress movement to respond to the question of What is to Be Done, Comrade Magaqa became part of those who believed that the ANC can and will self-correct. History will judge whether his position, which we fully respected, is a correct one.

What we know is that in the ultimate end, Comrade Sindiso Magaqa believed that the land should be expropriated without compensation. He also believed that mines should be nationalised for equal redistribution and benefit of all people. The political platforms upon which he chose to pursue these ideals were of his own, and the EFF never treated, nor thought of him as an enemy.

The EFF takes this opportunity to call for an end to all political assassinations and killings. Political differences should never degenerate into violence because such will lead to common ruin. The EFF will continue to foster an environment for peaceful political engagement like has been the case since the formation of the organisation in 2013.

We send condolences to his family, friends and comrades.
