The EFF condemns police brutality meted against peaceful protestors at the unveiling of the disgraces and disreputable Zuma statue in Groot Marico. Police used rubber bullets and water canons against people, including assault to deny them the constitutional right to protest.

The North West government has opted to use public funds to construct a statue of Zuma who is the most immoral, corrupt and embarrassing president democratic South Africa has ever known. We reject this statue as a monument of corruption and it must be added to all the statues that must fall. A statue of corrupt individuals is as immoral as the statues celebrating apartheid and colonial leaders.

After facilitating the looting of public funds for the Gupta syndicate, Zuma has the narcissistic audacity to unveil his own statue. This is more so because Groot Marico is a poor area forgotten by his government in terms of service delivery and economic development.
