Retired Constitutional Court Judge Edwin Cameron has been appointed Inspecting Judge of the Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Cameron will serve a three-year term from January 2020.
The Judicial Inspectorate monitors the country’s correctional facilities, providing reports on the state of correctional centres and the treatment of inmates.
The current Inspecting Judge and retired Constitutional Judge, Johann van der Westhuizen, has been reappointed for three months, until December.
