KwaZulu-Natal Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube has welcomed the country’s move to level 1 of the national lockdown but has cautioned the liquor industry to comply with regulations.

She was speaking during the Provincial Tourism Investment Committee Meeting attended by tourism industry players, as well as all KwaZulu-Natal municipalities.

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Wednesday evening the country’s move to level 1 from midnight on September 20. The new regulations will allow travel into and out of South Africa for business and leisure.

However, travel may be restricted to and from certain countries that have high infection rates.

Travellers will need to present a negative Covid-19 test result not older than 72 hours from time of departure.

“I am sure you all noted the President indicating that travellers will only be able to use one of the land border posts that have remained operational during the lockdown. He also singled out the King Shaka International Airport. We visited the Airport with members of Cabinet sometime in July to monitor compliance with health regulations including those set up by the Aviation Authority. We are satisfied with compliance with health regulations aimed at curbing the spread of Covid-19 in our airport,” said Dube-Ncube.

All travellers will be screened on arrival and those presenting with symptoms will be required to remain in quarantine until a repeat Covid-19 test is conducted.

Dube-Ncube also welcomed the revised hours of curfew which are now between midnight and 04:00.
