The Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies will launch the revitalised Babelegi Industrial Park in Hammanskraal, Gauteng on Tuesday, 30 May 2017. Minister Davies is expected to be joined by the Premier of Gauteng Mr David Makhura and the Executive Mayor of Tshwane, Councillor Solly Msimanga.

The R42-million project is part of the Revitalisation of Industrial Parks Programme of the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti).

According to Minister Davies, the main objective of the programme is to accelerate economic development in the lagging regions by attracting business investments to locate in these areas. It is also aimed at supporting job creation in manufacturing and related sectors.

“the dti has forged strategic partnerships for the implementation of the programme on a national scale working with the provinces, their agencies as well as municipalities. In the case of Babelegi the department is working with the North West Development Corporation who are also the owners of the park. The City of Tshwane has also played a strategic role in ensuring the smooth implementation of the programme,” says Minister Davies.

The Babelegi Industrial Park has approximately 261 developed units which are available for leasing, and 188 of the units are occupied by firms operating in textiles, engineering, construction, light manufacturing, warehousing and distribution houses.

The first phase of revitalisation of the Babelegi Industrial Park focussed on security upgrades which included installation of invisible fencing, control room, guard houses, swing gates and pedestrian gates, new boom gate and high mast lighting upgrade and maintenance.
